Commercial electron Monte Carlo algorithms have become more widely available in recent years, providing increased accuracy over pencil beam algorithms at clinically useful computation times. This webinar reviews electron treatment planning basics and discusses the differences between pencil beam algorithms vs. Monte Carlo algorithms. Additionally, we will discuss validation testing unique to electron Monte Carlo algorithms and changes to clinical planning procedures when transitioning from pencil beam to electron Monte Carlo. 


Jessie Huang-Vredevoogd is an assistant professor in the Department of Human Oncology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received a Ph.D. in medical physics at the MD Anderson Cancer Center and completed her radiation oncology physics residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Medical Physics.


When her institution transitioned from Pinnacle to RayStation, Dr. Huang-Vredevoogd commissioning the electron beam models and since then has continued to work on the clinical implementation of RayStation. Additional clinical areas of expertise include brachytherapy, TSET and TBI, and dual-energy CT imaging for treatment planning.
